Our Learning Journey

This week we read the story 'Oliver's Vegetables'. In literacy we created a shopping list for the ingredients we would need to make soup and today we became chefs for the day and had the opportunity to cut vegetables (ensuring we used the knives safely) and prepare our soup ready for snack time. At snack time we ate our vegetable soup and it was delicious.

We enjoyed planting our own beans as part of our work on the story 'Jasper's Beanstalk'. We spoke about what a plant would need to help it grow and wrote instructions on how to look after our beanstalk. Look how much they have grown!

We have really enjoyed watching the eggs hatch into chicks during their time with us. It has been exciting to learn about the chicks and talk about their lifecycle. The children had chance to hold the chicks and were so gentle with them.

We have enjoyed learning about animals from hot countries as part of our topic this week. We have read the story Dear Zoo and thought about the reasons why the animals were sent back and then thought of our own zoo animal. We painted Dear Zoo animal pictures and even mixed colours to create a sunset image for our shadow animal.

Today we have been learning about the human body. We drew around one of our friends and added labels to show where the different parts of the body were. We had fun playing the game 'Simon Says' and even used the chalk to make our own X-ray pictures.

We have had a busy week learning new phonics sounds. We had fun practicing these today in a variety of ways. The sounds we have learnt are; s, a, t, and p.

Our first day!
